Expected impacts

ICT in cycling can be used to provide intelligent systems that assist the cyclist to avoid, prevent, or mitigate accidents by providing correct information on the safest route or by detecting vehicles. By using ITS, cycling will become safer as the chance of getting injured during the journey decreases, as well as that the impact in case of accidents will be reduced.

Expected impacts of SAFECYCLE are:

  • Improved safety, efficiency and competitiveness of transport systems.
  • Optimized mobility of people in urban environments.
  • Improved quality of life in urban environments.
  • A wider uptake of intelligent vehicle systems and co-operative systems.
  • Increased European research excellence.
