25 October: final SAFECYCLE conference in Vienna

The EU-funded project SAFECYCLE aims at identifying ICT and ITS applications which enhance the safety of cyclists. On 25th October the final event takes place in Vienna, parallel to the ITS World Congress.

The conference is especially interesting for researchers, cyclists, car and bicycle manufacturers, public authorities, consultants and everyone else interested in learning about ICT/ITS, cycling and their future potential.

The afternoon starts with a brief general introduction to ITS, followed by the results of the project: an overview of possible ICT and ITS applications to enhance the safety of cyclists, the costs and benefits of potentially successful applications and their expected impact on safety.

The second part of the afternoon will be dedicated to the potential of ICT and ITS to enhance the safety of cyclist and to make cycling more attractive in general. What do we need to speed up adoption? What kind of standards would be helpful to stimulate deployment of applications? And what kind of applications are users looking for? During the afternoon there will be a lot of room for input from the participants.

The afternoon will be concluded with a guided cycling tour, demonstrating existing applications and locations in Vienna which could benefit from ICT/ITS applications.
